CSS SUMMERTIME CAR WASH RECAP
Dear CSS members,
The Cambodian Student Society is proud to say that our first official fundraiser of the year was a great success! Spin Cycle in Long Beach graciously hosted CSS's car wash on the morning of Saturday the 31st of July at 9am, where CSSers worked hard to wash and spiff up cars while making fun, lasting memories together, too.
Though the morning got off to a slow start--likely because of the bizarre July gloom we've been having--things picked up once the sun started shining and in no time we were washing at least three or four cars at once! Because the morning brought in so few customers, however, our car wash's cutoff time was pushed back from 12pm to 2pm--which lent us lots of valuable time to spend with both each other and the incredibly generous and interested supporters who came out and gave donations to our group.
Along with the car wash, CSS also hosted a small bake sale, where scrumptious cupcakes and brownies were sold. Volunteers also sold T-shirts, along with signed copies of Cambodian ambassador Sichan Siv's autobiographical and inspiring book, Golden Bones, which recounts the story of Siv's escape from Cambodia during the time of the Khmer Rouge's reign of terror, his life in America as an ambassador, and his return to the site where so many horrors took place in Cambodia's past.
Thanks to everyone who came out and gave their time in support of C.S.S.!

Also, we'll have Cambodian Student Society tshirts and the 2010 Culture Show DVD's for sale. All questions are welcome and please do contact us if you have any comments or concerns.

Volunteer for Cambodia Town, Get Interviewed/Pictures Taken by Los Angeles Times
Dear All,
I hope you are all doing well. The Los Angeles Times will be participating in collecting signatures for the passage of the Business Improvement District, which will turn Cambodia Town into a landmark similar to Chinatown, Little Tokyo, or Thai Town.
CSS has been a big supporter of Cambodia Town, from its initial passage on July 3, 2007, to volunteering for Cambodia Town to further accomplish their goals.
I have volunteered CSS to help gather signatures from business owners along Anaheim Street. Coming along with us are the Board of Directors for Cambodia Town, and a representative from Los Angeles Times. Here are the details:
- Saturday, October 24th at 12:00pm
- Meet at 11:30am for Cambodia Town President, Sithea San to brief all of you on whats going to happen
- Meet at Income Tax Services off of Anaheim Street and Dawson Ave.
- We will collect signatures from business owners along the 1000 and 1100 blocks on Anaheim Street
This is a great opportunity for us as CSS gains more recognition thanks to the Los Angeles Times and our efforts will create a larger impact on our community. Please review this information and I hope you are able to come and help out.
Who knows, your few hours of volunteering might get you a spot in the Los Angeles Times!

AIDS Walk Cancelled due to Bereavement
Hi Friends And Members,
CSS' Aids Walk has been cancelled due to bereavement. It is with our deepest regret to deliver a sad news of Tay Leang's passing. She is a dedicated community leader and a regular supporter to CSS. She has been supporting us at nearly every event and has also made financial contribution to the organization as well.
I spoke with her family and offered our help to her memorial service. It would be in great honor to oum-Tay if we attended the memorial service this Sunday, October 18. Oum-Tay is a soft spoken woman with a big heart. She is one of few committed community leader who has dedicated her life in serving the students and community.
As a group of CSS, I request for your support in attending her memorial service to give back to someone who has been there for us for so long. We will be meeting at the Temple at 9:30am. The place is called "Wat Willow Temple" at 2100 W. Willow Street, Long Beach CA 90810.
If you should have any questions or would like to carpool, please call me at .
Thank you for your continuing support.
Best,
Michael Saing
President
