It's that time of year when we all continue our journey of knowledge. I hope you all have had a wonderful summer (even those who took classes this summer). This upcoming semester will be a milestone for everybody because it will be a semester closer to graduating and pursuing careers. On behalf of Cambodian Student Society I want to wish all of you the best of luck for the Fall 2010 semester.

Our first event that is coming up very soon is the Week of Welcome located at the friendship walk (right in front of the bookstore). The week of welcome will take place on September 8th and 9th from 11am - 2pm. Please come out to support our table at this event.

Our first meeting following this event will be on September 24 at 6:30PM in the USU room 304 (third floor).

Again, I would like to wish all of you a great Fall semester. CSS will be here for you every step of the way. I look forward to seeing you all very soon!

The Cambodian Student Society is proud to say that our first official fundraiser of the year was a great success! Spin Cycle in Long Beach graciously hosted CSS's car wash on the morning of Saturday the 31st of July at 9am, where CSSers worked hard to wash and spiff up cars while making fun, lasting memories together, too.

Though the morning got off to a slow start--likely because of the bizarre July gloom we've been having--things picked up once the sun started shining and in no time we were washing at least three or four cars at once! Because the morning brought in so few customers, however, our car wash's cutoff time was pushed back from 12pm to 2pm--which lent us lots of valuable time to spend with both each other and the incredibly generous and interested supporters who came out and gave donations to our group.

Along with the car wash, CSS also hosted a small bake sale, where scrumptious cupcakes and brownies were sold. Volunteers also sold T-shirts, along with signed copies of Cambodian ambassador Sichan Siv's autobiographical and inspiring book, Golden Bones, which recounts the story of Siv's escape from Cambodia during the time of the Khmer Rouge's reign of terror, his life in America as an ambassador, and his return to the site where so many horrors took place in Cambodia's past.

I. Last meeting for Spring 2010 is this Friday May 7th, 630pm at USU-304.
Vote Eligibility: Must be a current CSULB student and must also be a dedicated member (attending 3+ meetings for this academic year). (sorry, non-CSULB student cannot vote but welcome to participate in election meeting). Bring your CSULB ID to vote. First speech will start at 6:45pm. If you are interested in a position, it is not too late and there will be more nominations on this day. I have attached a list of roles and responsibility for each position for you to view.

II. For this year's 26th Annual Culture Show DVDs, you can purchase them at the CSS Grad Party scheduled on May 23rd, Sunday 6p at the Soroptomists House on CSULB campus. DVDs will be $10 each (only Cash or checks (Make payable to Cambodian Student Society)). They have been edited and mastered by The Johnny Mam Film Production. Quantity is limited.

III. CSULB's library will be opening 24hours/7days from May 9 - 21, 2010

I am back from Cambodia and brought our official CSS Shirts as promised! These shirts are ALL made in Cambodia and each hand screened. I took videos of how our shirts was made.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJIMd6K5E9w. These shirts are limited and only available in Black with white print. (Video has yellow print because I had them test different colors as sample). Unisex sizes range from S-XL. Will be available on next meeting for $10 each. There is a logo on front and right arm as well. Each shirt sale will go to club to raise funds for our culture show expense. Contact us if you want to arrange sale outside of meeting times.

This Friday Feb. 5^th at 6pm at the Khmer Arts Academy studio (not at USU-304, just for this friday) will be our brainstorming session and discussion of possible skits for the 26^th annual CSS Culture Show. Don’t be afraid to share your ideas about skits, themes, and titles for the show. Precisely at 6:30pm will be a special performance by the dance troupe of Khmer Arts Academy. Collectively afterward will delve into our discussion as well as member sign-up for skits.
